Writing Assignment

Also known as WRITING: Why Resist Invitations To Excel

Also knows as EDICT: Every Decision Includes Certain Tensions

Also known as POWER: People Only Want Equal Rights

Also known as SMART: Start Mastering All Relevant Thoughts

We all know the problems: wars, hunger, illiteracy, homelessness, racism, sexism.

We hear the news about gunmen killing people in movie theaters (Aurora CO) or schools

(Newtown CT), priests and coaches sexually abusing children, drones killing civilians in Afghanistan, people wrongly or maliciously convicted of crimes, 10 billion animals killed ever year on factory farms, global warming, traffic gridlock. And on and on.

So what are the solutions? In 600 words or more, write a reflective paper on the solution to any one of these problems. Or another problem you’ve been thinking about.

Papers should be typed or computer-printed. Papers that are well-written in lively and graceful prose earn--what else?—A’s. Papers that are fairly well written but lack that extra sparkle ear B’s. Average papers using ordinary language earn C’s. Papers that show little sign of brain activity earn--what else?—D’s. Papers bereft of all activity earn F’s.

Grade deduction for late papers.
